"NOT IN OUR HOUSE" This was the famous quote as newly hired Green Bay Packers head coach Mike Holmgren took over the reins in 1992. General manager Ron Wolf and Holmgren had a point to prove and they did. Between 1992-1998 the Packers won 56 games while losing only 5 times at Lambeau Field, which includes exhibition, regular season and playoff games, including the incredible 25 game winning streak. The 25 consecutive home victories at Lambeau Field by the Green Bay Packers between September 17, 1995 until October 5, 1998 is a very impressive record, but very few people talk about the accomplishment. With the long history of the Packers, dating more than 100 NFL seasons many records are forgotten. I would like to tug at your memories a bit and sit back, relax a read how the Packers built a mini-dynasty in the mid-1990s.If you were around it was a great run. If you weren’t, read how great a team the Packers organization put together. The 1995 Packers moved all the way to the NFC Championship game. This was the first NFC Championship game for Green Bay since the infamous “Ice” Bowl in 1967.The 1996 Packers won the NFC Championship game at Green Bay and would go on to win Super Bowl XXXI. The 1997 Packers won the NFC Championship game but would lose in Super Bowl XXXII. During this incredible run between the 25 straight home victories, the Packers won 39 games while losing only eleven times. Not only did Green Bay win 25 consecutive regular season home games, but the Packers also won four NFC playoff games at Lambeau Field, so the streak with an * could be 29 straight victories and if it weren’t for an exhibition home loss in a 1998 game, the streak could be well over 30 consecutive wins. With head coach Mike Holmgren leaving following the 1998 season, fortunes changed for a while and it took another nine seasons to reach the NFC Championship game and another twelve seasons to make it to the Super Bowl. Unfortunately, all things must come to an end as did this mini-dynasty of the 1990s Packers. One will never know if this type of streak will ever happen again.
