The Chimney: A Novel (The American Frontier Trilogy)

Jane Duncan, a young widow with three children, is caught between pro-Confederate guerrilla fighters and Union forces as the Civil War threatens to rip apart their family—and their nation. Their journey, heartaches, turmoil, and uncertain future form an inspiring portrait of the many untold stories of that devastating war and the real people who suffered in its wake. You’ll gain a new heart for the families who somehow carved out a life on the dangerous frontlines of the costliest conflict in United States history, as you experience what it took for this young woman and her children to survive against all odds. Tom Owens was born in Kansas City, Missouri, and raised with one foot there and the other foot on family property in Bates County, Missouri. Tom’s writing includes thirty short stories and sketches. The first novel in his trilogy is The Chimney, soon to be followed by the sequel The Great Wide Open. When he’s not writing, Tom is a docent at the Wornall/Majors House Museums in Kansas City, Missouri, sharing his love of history and stories of our past with others.
