This book is Mark's personal reflection on loving and serving his wife, Naomi, during her ten-year journey of Alzheimer’s disease, while at the same time loving and serving St. Mark Lutheran Church. As a husband and pastor, he has sought to maintain a healthy balance of these two enormous responsibilities. His intent is to offer a glimpse into this period of simultaneous caregiving. Specifically, he examines the unique role that the Christian faith plays in shaping one's hopes and expectations under such challenging circumstances.As the title suggests, this has been a difficult and often times heart-wrenching experience. Yet, Mark feels compelled to reflect theologically upon this decade in light of the baptismal promise of sharing in “the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ.” He offers these contemplations in the hope that they might provide some modicum of assurance to others, especially those who share in the difficult journey of caregiving for a loved one with Alzheimer’s disease.
