He and Mara clash over many details of the resuce mission from the very beginning, with Mara refusing to believe that the Yanurans are involved. Along for the journey is physician Hedy, who clashes with Lt. Wren, second in command of the mission. He does have human traits, but has something she does not have..wings. This subtle subplot lends a glance into the passions and minds of these two characters, as Wren does not feel he deserves her attention, because he cannot fly, and therefore is not a 'man'. Will Hedy be able to help Wren overcome his limitations and make him realize, a man is not measured by his ability to fly? Will Mara and Deke find happily ever after in the next millenium? You won't need to stay tuned to find out how the ending to this fantasic book ends, because you won't be able to put it down.The passion between these characters is 'out of this world.'
