About the Author The genealogical expertise of Colette Thomas Smith has been acquired over years of research in American Colonial records, Southern and Atlantic states history and genealogical records, with a focus on records produced from 1600 to 1800. While searching early land records and wills, she acquired knowledge about other groups of people noted in various obscure documents. Ms. Smith has taught history and social studies in a number of public and private schools. She was a genealogical teacher at Brigham Young University Continuing Education, and was a Family History Center volunteer and teacher before serving two years at the Utah Valley Regional Genealogical Library at Brigham Young University. She s lent her expertise to authors and filmmakers, and was recently accepted as a Doctoral Candidate in history with a focus on early Britain. The study of ancient European settlements is an on-going area of personal interest. She lives in Provo, Utah.
