Imagine attending a one-room country school. Bonnie Nijenhuis-Hurd never forgot her days at the little school in Downs, Kansas. Over the years she collected stories, pictures, souvenirs, maps, old records and remembrances of that special school. Oak Creek Country School opend in 1873 as a dugout. Now, thanks to Bonnie, the school has been restored and is under the protection of the local Historical Society.
