Primary Neurologic Care

Primary Neurologic Care is designed to help the nurse practitioner provide treatment to patients with neurological problems within a primary care setting. It specifically focuses on those patients with neurologic symptoms or who require ongoing management of chronic and stable neurologic conditions. Using a symptom-orientated approach this text covers the symptoms and disorders most likely to be seen in a primary care setting, including headaches, back and neck pain, epilepsy, dementia, multiple sclerosis, neuropathies and dizziness. For each disorder, the book covers background andetiology, expected signs and symptoms, diagnostic tests, pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic treatment, prevention and education. For chronic conditions, emphasis is on the control of symptoms and management of the condition. Indications for referral to aspecialist are included where appropriate. Chapters on the neurologic examination and diagnostic tests assist the reader in effectively performing the examination and understanding test results.
