Review As its hyperactive title implies, this third album from the 17-piece Tom Cunningham Orchestra has energy to spare. Which is exactly what you'd expect from a repertoire that draws from the songbooks of such swing-era giants as Count Basie and Benny Goodman (10 of its 17 tracks), Harry James, Tommy Dorsey and Lionel Hampton. It's riff-roaring classics by James and Basie that give the album its name, and the band its purpose. This is jitterbug jive, dance music for folks with wannabe happy feet, whether set into motion by Goodman's sweetly swirling theme song, "Let's Dance" (with Greg Ridlington essaying some glistening clarinet), or the compulsive Kansas City-style stomp that leads to a bracing ride down "Avenue C." There's the speedy tom-tom driven thunder of "Hawaiian War Chant" alongside the sweeter sounds of "You Turned the Tables on Me." And the boogie-woogie bridge between swing and R&B is traversed on such genial romps as "Beulah's Boogie," "Money is Honey" and "Hey! Ba-Ba-Re-Bop," each a showcase for Juanita Ford's rollicking piano. Cunningham's trumpet soars, as do Brent Sessions' tenor sax and Rob Ercolano's clarinet, and the ensemble playing is seriously tight. -- The Washington Post, February 18, 2000, by Richard Harrington, Music Editor Product Description This is the third full-length release from one of the most respected swing bands on the East Coast.
