Martha Speaks

When Helen Finney feeds alphabet soup to her dog, Martha, it goes straight up to her brain, and Martha begins to speak! The basis for the Emmy-nominated PBS series. Having a talking dog is a lot of fun--unless your dog never stops talking! When chatty Martha gives her family the silent treatment they're relieved at first, but then they get worried. Will Martha ever speak again? Teaching her to use the telephone seems like a wonderful convenience, until unexpected deliveries of far more than pizza start arriving. Daily strolls around town are always good for a laugh, yet quiet evenings vanish when Martha chatters straight through everyone else's favorite TV shows. Martha blurts out embarrassing comments, tells the absolute truth at awkward moments, and always insists on having the last word. Animal Stories: On the very first evening Martha speaks, her amazed family has endless questions, and she has plenty of opinions of her own to share. Funny Books for Kids: When Martha abruptly stops talking, Helen's father calls the family vet, who immediately snaps and asks if the whole thing is a joke. Early Learning: A worried Helen dishes up bowl after bowl of alphabet soup, hoping to coax her sulking pet out from beneath the kitchen table. Also by This Author: Martha Blah Blah, Martha Calling and Martha and Skits.
