Why must aging haunt me? Almost daily now it seems In the mirror after rising, during all my day’s routines At evening when the stillness often causes me to slow Taking stock of where I’ve been and how much further I must go I worry that my ending will leave a cluttered scene Dues unpaid for dreams unborn or chasing harebrained schemes A calling perhaps is what it means or a crisis at middle age But I cannot rest until my views are put down on a page Here are the workings of my mind spelled out in poems and prose I hope that some will make you think and others tweak your nose I have no incite into destiny and my story’s not all told It’s just a view of a thing or two from a man that’s almost old
