The best transcriber is not necessarily the one who writes shorthand the most rapidly but is the one with the most common sense. The one who, for instance, is willing to check the spelling or division of every doubtful word by referring to the dictionary, the one who refuse to transcribe a sentence if it doesn't "make sense." There is hope, therefore, for the stenographer who, although, without the highest technical ability, check and checks and checks his work until the dictator feels sure that he can sign the letters without reading them. Such stenographers are rare, but they are always treasured and usually suitably rewarded. Thus should be the end result once mastering the techniques in this book.
