“Behind the Door” has given me the opportunity to take a long, introspective look at my life and my past to help me understand why I behaved in the manner in which I behaved in certain situations. There is an old African proverb called ‘Sankofa,’ which means “return and get it.” I had to go back to gain an understanding of myself and my actions. Until we honestly and courageously look inside ourselves and recognize the intense vices and demons that draw us back, we will never truly be free mentally, physically, emotionally, spiritually, or even financially. This book tells a true story – a story of how I overcame poverty, self-pity, limiting beliefs, and post-traumatic stress. It narrates how I began to live more exuberantly, optimistically, and abundantly. I am so glad I did not kill myself. I am so glad I did not die. I am utterly grateful. Healthy self-love and joy have surely given me a whole new life.
