The Suffering Servant's Courage (2nd Ed.)

Revised 2nd Edition. Includes Luminous Mysteries. This prayer book integrates poignant Sacred Scripture verses about courage and strength, the prayers of the mysteries of the Most Holy Rosary, and the inspired artistry of the 19th century Catholic illustrator Gustave Dore. Praying the Most Holy Rosary is so very easy and yet, many are fooled by its simplicity and power, thus avoid it. We can only caution against this delusion by echoing St Louis de Montfort’s warning that "To think it is possible to say prayers that are finer and more beautiful than the Our Father and the Hail Mary is to fall prey to a strange illusion of the devil. / These heavenly prayers are the support, strength, and safeguard of our souls." (25th Rose, The Secret of the Rosary) Similarly, St. Thomas Aquinas calls the Our Father, the Hail Mary and the Apostles’ Creed the three greatest prayers. In the Apostolic Letter on the Rosary of the Blessed Virgin Mary (Rosarium Virginis Mariae, Oct 16th, 2002), Pope John Paul II said the Most Holy Rosary is "a prayer so easy and yet so rich [that it] deserves to be rediscovered … Rediscover the Rosary in the light of Scripture..." A Scriptural Rosary richly enhances the meditation of the mysteries through Sacred Scriptures. In this Apostolic letter, Pope John Paul II also recommended adding five additional mysteries – called the Luminous Mysteries – "to bring out fully the Christological depth of the Rosary…" This edition of The Suffering Servant’s Courage has been updated to include these Luminous Mysteries with 18 additional pages that immediately follow page 17. Also included are seven more pictures from Gustave Doré’s Bible illustrations. The original fifteen mysteries remain as they appeared in the First Edition.
